VALLEY FORGE, PA — The Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge National Historical Park honored the 20th Anniversary of 9/11 with a solemn remembrance service and tribute to Flight 93 Hero Louis J. Nacke II, who is laid to rest in the Chapel’s cemetery, on Saturday, September 11.
Throughout the morning service, the Chapel’s renowned Carillon, located in the Chapel’s bell tower, tolled its bourdon bell for two minutes at the precise times each plane struck the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, when Flight 93 fatally crashed and when the North and South Towers collapsed.
Following the service, Father Tommy Thompson, rector of the Washington Memorial Chapel, led a procession to the grave of Louis J. Nacke II, one of the heroes of Flight 93, who is buried in the Chapel’s cemetery. Prayers were said for the victims who died in the attacks, those who lost their lives in the last twenty years in the ongoing conflict and for the civilians and service members who died most recently in Afghanistan.
