Traffic Delays: Major Highway Resurfacing Operations Coming to Philadelphia and Surrounding Counties!

KING OF PRUSSIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that resurfacing operations are scheduled next week on several state highways across Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties under multiple contracts worth an estimated $134 million to repair and pave more than 200 miles of state highway across the region.

The work schedules and locations are:

Philadelphia

  • Monday, August 7, through Thursday, August 10, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on Castor Avenue between Cottman Avenue (Route 73) and Bustleton Avenue for milling;
  • Monday, August 7, through Friday, August 11, from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, alternating lane closures are scheduled in both directions on Interstate 76 between the Grays Ferry Avenue/University Avenue and the Passyunk Avenue interchanges for patching operations;
  • Tuesday, August 8, through Friday, August 11, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a lane closure is scheduled on Castor Avenue between Cottman Avenue (Route 73) and Bustleton Avenue for prepping operations;
  • Wednesday, August 9, through Friday, August 11, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on Frankford Avenue between Robbins Street and Dyre Street for milling; and
  • Thursday, August 10, and Friday, August 11, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on Aramingo Avenue between York Street and Wheatsheaf Lane for paving.

Bucks County

  • Monday, August 7, through early September, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a lane closure is scheduled on Taylorsville Road between Taylorsville Road over Dyers Creek and Route 32 (River Road) in Lower Makefield and Upper Makefield townships for milling and paving.

Chester County

  • Sunday, August 6, from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, alternating lane closures are scheduled in both directions on Paoli Pike between Five Points Road and Westtown Road/Garfield Avenue in West Goshen Township for paving;
  • Sunday, August 6, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on New Street between Route 724 (Schuylkill Road) and Main Street, Main Street between New Street and Bridge Street, and Bridge Street between Main Street and the Montgomery County line in East Vincent Township and Spring City Borough for milling and paving;
  • Monday, August 7, through Friday, August 11, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, alternating lane closures are scheduled in both directions on Paoli Pike between Five Points Road and Westtown Road/Garfield Avenue in West Goshen Township for paving;
  • Monday, August 7, through Friday, August 11, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on New Street between Route 724 (Schuylkill Road) and Main Street, Main Street between New Street and Bridge Street, and Bridge Street between Main Street and the Montgomery County line in East Vincent Township and Spring City Borough for milling and paving; and
  • Tuesday, August 8, through Friday, August 11, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on Route 23 (Nutt Road) between Route 113 (Kimberton Road) and Route 29 (Main Street/Manavon Street) in Phoenixville for casting adjustments, milling, and paving.

Delaware County

  • Sunday, August 6, from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on Baltimore Pike between Delmar Road and Bishop Road in Upper Darby Township for milling and paving; and
  • Monday, August 7, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on Baltimore Pike between Delmar Road and Bishop Road in Upper Darby Township for milling and paving.

Montgomery County

  • Monday, August 7, through Friday, August 11, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) between Lower Valley Forge Road and Riverview Road in Upper Merion Township for milling, paving, and casting adjustments; and
  • Monday, August 7, through Friday, August 11, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on High Street between Hanover Street and the Berks County line in Pottstown Borough and Lower Pottsgrove Township for utility adjustments, milling, and paving.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because slowdowns will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under these paving projects, PennDOT is milling the existing roadway surfaces and repaving the state highways with new asphalt. The new pavement will seal the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface.
