WEST GOSHEN TWP, PA — An overnight closure of U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) is scheduled for Thursday, March 20, as crews begin work on the superstructure replacement of the Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) bridge. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will close both directions of U.S. 322 between Phoenixville Pike and New Street from 8 PM to 6 AM the following morning.
During the closure, westbound drivers will follow a detour via Paoli Pike, Gay Street, North High Street, Chestnut Street, Hannum Avenue, and Downingtown Pike. Eastbound traffic will be rerouted through Business U.S. 322, Hannum Avenue, North New Street, Market Street, and West Chester Pike. Motorists should anticipate delays and allow for additional travel time. All activities are weather dependent.
This project comes three months after emergency repairs were completed on the Route 100 bridge and U.S. 322 following significant damage caused by a vehicle collision on December 21, 2023. At that time, debris from the impact necessitated the temporary closure of Route 100, U.S. 322, and connecting ramps.
The replacement of the bridge’s superstructure marks a critical phase in restoring this section of Chester County’s roadway network. Built in 1955, the 77-foot-long, single-span steel structure supports approximately 15,691 vehicles daily.
PennDOT’s efforts aim to strengthen infrastructure resilience and ensure the long-term usability of a heavily traveled corridor in the region. Motorists are advised to remain updated on traffic conditions as the project progresses.
