WEST GOSHEN TWP, PA — Starting Monday, April 29, a significant construction project is set to begin on northbound U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) in West Goshen Township, Chester County, signaling a period of potential headaches for local drivers. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a $2.2 million initiative aimed at rectifying roadway embankment erosion caused by a branch of Taylor Run following the remnants of Hurricane Ida in 2021.
The project entails the installation of a 150-foot retaining wall at the base of the slope that failed, alongside efforts to reconstruct the eroded roadway shoulder, mill and pave the roadway adjacent to the retaining wall, replace guiderail, enhance stormwater drainage, and install riprap material for additional protection against scour.
In light of these activities, PennDOT is issuing a travel advisory effective from Monday, April 29, through Tuesday, May 7. During this period, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on weekdays, a lane closure will be in place on U.S. 322 between the Penn Drive overpass and Phoenixville Pike. Motorists are urged to factor in extra travel time due to expected delays and backups in the construction zone. The progression of work is contingent on suitable weather conditions.
