WEST MARLBOROUGH TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that construction will commence Monday, March 3, on a $1.3 million project to rehabilitate the Route 82 (Doe Run Road) bridge over Doe Run in Chester County. This critical infrastructure enhancement aims to restore the safety and functionality of the bridge, which has been closed since November 2024 due to significant deterioration.
The project will replace the bridge’s superstructure, improve stormwater drainage, resurface the approach roadway, and install abutment backfill, new signage, and pavement markings. Additional plans include brown-painted steel beams and guiderail, an epoxy overlay on the bridge deck, and stone enhancements designed to blend with the surrounding landscape of the Doe Run historic district. Built in 1932, the 58-foot-long, 23-foot-wide bridge previously carried approximately 4,881 vehicles daily.
While construction is underway, motorists will continue to use a posted detour along Route 841 (North Chatham Road) and Route 842 (Clonmell Upland Road). Drivers are encouraged to allow extra time for travel near the work zone as backups and delays are expected. Scheduled activities are weather dependent.
Loftus Construction, Inc., based in King of Prussia, is managing the project, which is fully funded by state resources.
