PennDOT to Open New Southbound Ship Road Couplet in West Whiteland Township

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT)

WEST WHITELAND TOWNSHIP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that a new southbound Ship Road, known as the Ship Road Couplet, will open to traffic next week. This significant local improvement project is located in West Whiteland Township, Chester County.

Beginning Tuesday, November 7, the newly constructed southbound Ship Road Couplet will be accessible from just south of Swedesford Road at the Chester Valley Trail through to the Business U.S. 30 (Lincoln Highway) to just north of the U.S. 30 Bypass.

This development aims to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in one of Chester County’s busiest areas. The opening of the new road will significantly enhance the daily commute of many motorists in and around West Whiteland Township.

Once the new roadway opens, southbound Ship Road motorists will be diverted to the right onto a new lane immediately after crossing the Chester Valley Trail. In contrast, northbound Ship Road traffic will continue to use the existing Ship Road.

Motorists are being advised to remain cautious and adjust their plans accordingly during the initial phase of the new roadway’s operation.

The completion of the Ship Road Couplet marks a significant milestone for PennDOT and the residents of West Whiteland Township, demonstrating the ongoing commitment to enhancing transport links and improving the quality of life in Chester County. As the new southbound road opens next week, it signifies not just an achievement for PennDOT but also a step forward for the community.
