LONDONDERRY TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced ongoing construction on the Route 41 (Gap Newport Pike) and Route 926 (Street Road) roundabout project in Londonderry Township, Chester County. This $6.3 million project aims to improve safety and accommodate future traffic demands.
Starting Tuesday, September 3, Route 926 (Street Road) will be closed 24/7 between Route 841 (Coatesville Road) and Route 796 (Jennersville Road) until late October. Motorists should follow the posted detour.
Additionally, Route 41 (Gap Newport Pike) will be closed to personal vehicles 24/7 between Route 796 (Jennersville Road) and U.S. 1 (Kennett Oxford Bypass). Commercial truck traffic will be prohibited on Route 41 between Route 10 (Limestone Road) and U.S. 1. Detours will be in place.
Drivers should expect backups and delays and plan for extra travel time. This schedule is weather dependent.
The project includes constructing a single-lane, four-legged roundabout south of the current intersection. Existing pavement will be removed. Route 41 will be reconstructed for 1,900 feet, and Route 926 will be realigned for 1,400 feet. PennDOT will use agricultural land for stormwater management and create a wetland mitigation area.
J. D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, PA, is the general contractor, with the project funded entirely by federal funds.
