CHESTER COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is set to continue roadway construction next week as part of a $3.6 million project to enhance travel and safety along a 2.87-mile section of U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) in East Bradford and West Goshen townships, Chester County.

From Monday, November 27, through Friday, December 1, motorists can expect periodic lane closures from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) in both directions between U.S. 322 (Downingtown Pike) and U.S. 202 for guide rail construction. Travelers are advised to allow extra time when passing through the work area due to potential backups and delays. All scheduled activities are subject to weather conditions.

Under this safety improvement project, PennDOT’s contractor, Allan Myers of Worcester, Montgomery County, will perform various enhancements. These include narrowing the travel lanes; extending the acceleration lanes; replacing and installing traffic signals; constructing shoulders for bicycles; installing center line rumble strips; replacing guide rails; and installing wrong way countermeasures throughout the project corridor.

The improvements commence at the intersection of U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) and U.S. 322 (Downingtown Pike) and continue east to the U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) intersection with U.S. 202. The intersections involved in this project include North New Street, Route 100 (Pottstown Pike), Penn Drive, Phoenixville Pike, and U.S. 202.

The project, financed entirely with federal funds, aims to improve the safe and efficient movement of motorists and bicyclists on the U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) corridor. Construction is expected to be completed this winter.
