SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA — PECO Energy will be undertaking utility construction on several state highways across Bucks, Chester, and Delaware counties. The projects, which are set to begin this week, are likely to cause significant traffic disruptions, with motorists advised to allow for extra travel time.

In Bucks County, from Monday, January 15 through Friday, January 19, drivers can expect a lane closure with flagging on Route 263 (Upper York Road) between River Road and Circle View Drive in Solebury Township. Additionally, Trenton Avenue at the intersection with Carlisle Drive in Morrisville Borough will experience weekday lane closures with flagging from Monday, January 15, through Thursday, February 15.

Over in Chester County, Route 401 (Conestoga Road) between Seven Oaks Road and Newcomen Road in West Pikeland Township will have a lane closure scheduled from Monday, January 15, through Friday, January 19.

Delaware County won’t be left out of the mix either. From Wednesday, January 17, through Wednesday, January 31, Garrett Road will be closed and detoured weekdays between Clearbrook Avenue and Lansdowne Avenue. A detour via Sherbrook Boulevard, Plumstead Avenue, Marshall Road, and Lansdowne Avenue will be in place, although local access will be maintained up to the work zone.

Adding to the potential woes is the looming threat of snow in the forecast for the coming week. With temperatures expected to hover around the freezing mark, there’s a chance of snowfall slated for Tuesday, and again on Friday. Of course, all scheduled construction activities are weather dependent, so any significant snow could potentially alter the work timetable.

It’s clear that patience will be a virtue for commuters navigating these areas in the coming weeks. While backups and delays are expected, remember that these projects, carried out under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit, are essential for maintaining our community’s infrastructure.

So, as you plan your travel through or near these work areas, be sure to allow extra time, keep an eye on the forecast, and stay safe on the roads.
