SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA — Drivers in the Philadelphia region, prepare for a slowdown: The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced an extensive pavement repair operation set to affect more than 55 state highways this week. This initiative aims to address areas of deteriorating pavement across several counties, including Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia.
The operation, involving both PennDOT maintenance and contractor crews, will necessitate intermittent lane closures on key routes throughout the region. Motorists are advised to stay alert for these moving operations and anticipate potential delays while driving near work zones.
In Bucks County, repairs are slated for major arteries such as Route 32 (River Road) in New Hope and Upper Makefield Township, Route 232 (Windy Bush Road), and Route 332 (Newtown Richboro Road), among others. Chester County will see work on the U.S. 30 (Coatesville-Downingtown Bypass), U.S. 202, and Route 3 (West Chester Pike), to name a few. Delaware County’s affected roads include the U.S. 1 (Media Bypass), U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike), and U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway).
Montgomery County’s Interstate 76 and its ramps, along with Route 463 (Horsham Road) and Lansdale Avenue, are also on the list. In Philadelphia County, Interstate 76, Route 3 (Walnut Street/Chestnut Street), Broad Street (Route 611), and several other local roads will undergo repairs.
This widespread effort highlights PennDOT’s efforts to maintain the region’s infrastructure and ensure safer travel for motorists. However, the presence of work crews and the necessity of lane restrictions mean that drivers should brace for slower traffic and possible backups in the affected areas.
PennDOT urges drivers to exercise caution when approaching and passing through work zones, emphasizing the importance of slowing down and avoiding distractions to ensure the safety of both workers and motorists. As always, the schedule for these activities is weather dependent, and motorists are encouraged to remain informed about potential changes.
As the Philadelphia region gears up for a week of intensive roadwork, patience and careful planning will be key for drivers navigating the affected routes.
