Overnight Closures to Impact U.S. 322 Traffic for Bridge Repairs

Lane restrictions

WEST GOSHEN TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced overnight closures on U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) in West Goshen Township, Chester County. The closures are part of ongoing efforts to replace the superstructure of the Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) bridge.

On Thursday, August 8, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, U.S. 322 will be closed in both directions between Phoenixville Pike and New Street. This will allow crews to continue vital repair work.

Westbound U.S. 322 drivers will need to take the Paoli Pike Interchange, Gay Street, North High Street, Chestnut Street, Hannum Avenue, and Downingtown Pike. Eastbound drivers should use Business U.S. 322, Hannum Avenue, N. New Street, Market Street, West Chester Pike, and the ramp to U.S. 322/U.S. 202 South.

Motorists should anticipate backups and delays. Allow extra travel time when passing through the area. All work schedules are subject to weather conditions.

The need for these repairs arose after a large vehicle struck the Route 100 bridge over U.S. 322 on December 21, 2023. This incident led to the closure of Route 100, U.S. 322, and the ramp from Route 100 to eastbound U.S. 322.

PennDOT’s contractor has since repaired the bridge structure and cleared debris from U.S. 322. The Route 100 bridge, a single-span, steel stringer structure built in 1955, spans 77 feet in length and 80 feet in width. It accommodates approximately 15,691 vehicles daily.

Drivers are urged to stay informed about the progress of the repairs and plan their routes accordingly to avoid significant delays.
