CHESTER COUNTY, PA — A significant infrastructure project is underway in Chester County, as the existing North Valley Road Bridge in Tredyffrin and Willistown townships is set to be replaced. The bridge, which currently carries North Valley Road (SR 1005) over Amtrak/SEPTA railroad tracks, will be relocated with a new bridge over the railroad and a new roadway extension from the intersection of Lancaster Avenue and Darby Road.

Key Project Components:

  • Replacement and relocation of the existing North Valley Road Bridge.
  • Improvements at the East Central Avenue and West Central Avenue intersection with North Valley Road.
  • Enhancements to the existing parking areas for the train station.
  • New access roadways under the North Darby Road extension for a future parking garage.
  • Traffic signal modifications at North Valley Road/Lancaster Avenue and Darby Road/Lancaster Avenue.
  • Removal of the existing North Valley Road Bridge.
  • Modifications of North Valley Road between Lancaster Avenue and the railroad.

This project forms part of the larger Paoli Transportation Center program, which includes three phases developed in cooperation with Amtrak and SEPTA. Phase 1, completed in 2019, saw the construction of a pedestrian bridge and ADA improvements at the station building. The current project falls under Phase 2, focusing on highway improvements and the relocation of North Valley Road. Phase 3 envisions a potential future parking garage in the area of the south parking lot adjacent to Lancaster Avenue.

Residents of Chester County can expect improved traffic flow, increased safety, and enhanced accessibility once these projects are completed. Stay tuned for more updates on these transformative infrastructure improvements in Tredyffrin and Willistown townships.
