Navigate Safer Streets: What You Need to Know About High Street Construction in Chester County

Lane closures

CHESTER COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) continues its efforts to enhance safety at key intersections along the Business U.S. 322 (High Street) corridor, encompassing West Chester Borough and West Goshen Township. This extensive project seeks to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety through strategic infrastructure upgrades.

Scheduled from Monday, November 11, through Friday, November 15, periodic lane closures will occur on Business U.S. 322 between Barnard Street and Rosedale Avenue, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM each weekday. These closures, controlled by flagging personnel, may cause traffic delays, and motorists are advised to allow extra travel time when navigating these areas. As with all such projects, the work schedule is subject to change depending on weather conditions.

At the core of this $2,619,998 federally-funded initiative is the installation of new traffic signals at University Avenue and Sharpless Street, alongside updated signal support and related equipment. The project also includes the addition of retroreflective backplates on existing signals, modern LED lighting, and pedestrian countdown timers at intersections. Plans for curb extensions, high-visibility crosswalks, drainage improvements, and comprehensive pavement restoration further underscore the project’s aim to enhance roadway safety and efficiency.

Led by Marino Corporation of Skippack, Pennsylvania, the construction is anticipated to conclude in winter 2026.  For real-time updates on traffic conditions and potential changes to the construction schedule, motorists are encouraged to consult traffic resources such as the MyChesCo Traffic Center.
