WEST GOSHEN TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced the continuation of a significant $2.2 million construction project on the eastbound U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) in West Goshen Township, Chester County. This undertaking aims to address and repair the roadway embankment erosion caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ida in 2021.
Beginning Tuesday, October 15, through Friday, October 18, motorists should anticipate lane closures on the westbound U.S. 322, between the Penn Drive overpass and Phoenixville Pike, during nighttime hours from 7:00 PM until 6:00 AM. These closures are necessary to facilitate repairs and resurfacing operations aimed at restoring and enhancing the roadway’s structural integrity.
The project entails the construction of a 150-foot retaining wall at the base of the compromised slope to stabilize the existing roadway embankment, which had been eroded by a branch of Taylor Run. Additional construction activities include reconstructing the deteriorated roadway shoulder, milling and paving along the retaining wall, replacing guiderail, upgrading stormwater drainage, and installing riprap material for scour protection.
Motorists are advised to plan for potential delays and allow extra time for travel through the affected areas, as backups are anticipated during the construction period. All activities are contingent upon favorable weather conditions.
