Traffic, flagging

CHESTER COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced impending construction on U.S. 322 (Brandywine Avenue) in Downingtown Borough and East Caln Township as part of a significant $13.3 million infrastructure project. The initiative aims to replace the aging Boot Road bridge over Amtrak in East Caln Township to ensure safer and more efficient travel.

From Monday, October 7, to Friday, October 23, lane closures will occur on weekdays between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM on U.S. 322, stretching from Boot Road to Washington Avenue. These closures are necessary for the installation of over-height clearance signs, and motorists should anticipate potential delays.

The project involves replacing the 59-year-old bridge with a new 105-foot single-span structure, while maintaining the current 38-foot width. Additional enhancements include resurfacing and stormwater management improvements. The bridge’s profile will be slightly elevated to improve clearance for Amtrak’s facilities, and the associated catenary system will be re-profiled beneath the bridge.

Further construction will enhance the Boot Road and Quarry Road intersection, featuring road widening to accommodate left-turn lanes, updated traffic signals, and improved drainage.

Managed by H&K Group, Inc., the project is funded entirely by state resources. Motorists are encouraged to stay informed of traffic conditions by visiting the MyChesCo Traffic Center, available 24/7, to minimize travel disruptions.
