Chaos on the Roads: Major Disruptions as PennDOT Transforms Chester County’s 322!

Lane closures

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced the continuation of construction efforts aimed at enhancing safety along the Business U.S. 322 (High Street) corridor in West Chester Borough and West Goshen Township. This initiative focuses on improving intersections to facilitate smoother and safer traffic flow.

Starting Monday, October 7, through Friday, October 11, periodic lane closures will occur from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at various intersections, including Barnard Street, University Avenue, Nields Street, and others. These closures, managed through flagging, may cause traffic delays, and motorists are advised to plan accordingly.

The project encompasses several safety enhancements. New traffic signals will be installed at University Avenue and Sharpless Street, alongside retroreflective backplates, modern LED lighting, and pedestrian countdown timers. Additionally, curb extensions, high-visibility crosswalks, and drainage improvements will be implemented, culminating in a comprehensive resurfacing of the roadway.

With Marino Corporation as the general contractor, this $2.6 million project is funded entirely through federal resources and is expected to conclude by winter 2026. Motorists are encouraged to stay informed about traffic conditions by visiting the MyChesCo Traffic Center, available 24 hours a day, to minimize travel disruptions.
