Amtrak Launches Rail Upgrades in Chester County, Expect Road Closures and Detours

Road Closure and Detour

SADSBURY TWP, PA — Starting April 1, travelers through Sadsbury Township in Chester County will need to navigate around a significant closure on Oak Street as Amtrak embarks on an ambitious rail improvement project. The initiative, aimed at enhancing the safety and efficiency of the rail network, will see Oak Street shut down to through traffic on weekdays—and possibly weekends—from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM until June 28.

During this nearly three-month period, the stretch between Spruce Street and Greenbelt Drive will be off-limits, forcing drivers to seek alternative routes. Amtrak has outlined a detour plan directing traffic to Old Wilmington Road, Business U.S. 30 (Lincoln Highway), Route 82 (Strode Avenue), and Route 372 (Valley Road). These adjustments are designed to minimize disruption and maintain the flow of traffic around the construction zone.

Residents within the affected area can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that local access will be preserved up to the point of work. This means that while the inconvenience of detours cannot be avoided, homeowners and local businesses will remain reachable throughout the duration of the rail improvements.

Motorists who frequent this area are encouraged to plan for additional travel time. With road closures come inevitable delays and backups, as drivers adjust to the new traffic patterns and increased congestion on detour routes. Patience and careful planning will be essential for navigating this temporary obstacle.
