GREATER PHILADELPHIA — U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) sent letters of support this week for two Philadelphia-region applications for designation as a Tech Hub. Created by the CHIPS and Science Act, the Regional Technology and Innovation Hubs (Tech Hub) program is an economic development initiative aimed at accelerating growth in technology sectors, and the high-paying jobs that come with it, in cities and communities across the country.

The first application, led by the Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern PA, intends to focus on an expanded view of precision medicine by building on Philadelphia’s world-class life sciences assets. The second application, led by the Delaware Valley Biopharmaceutical Hub for Enterprises, Local Innovation, Commercialization, and Security, is similarly focused on accelerating biopharmaceutical innovation and manufacturing jobs in the Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington area.

“The Tech Hubs program will jumpstart the growth potential of cities and communities ready to lead the global economy, simultaneously creating good jobs here at home while allowing the United States to take control of our own economic future,” said Senator Casey. “A greater Philadelphia Tech Hub designation will utilize the region’s world-class life sciences and biopharmaceutical industries and spur innovation and entrepreneurship for decades to come.”

Senator Casey stated that he is actively working to bring jobs and economic investment back to Pennsylvania. His efforts include passing important legislation related to semiconductors and critical technology manufacturing. He has urged the consideration of Pennsylvania for future semiconductor investments and has been pushing for quick implementation of programs to promote innovation in communities. Senator Casey’s vision also emphasizes investing in American workers and manufacturing while addressing national security concerns. His legislation on screening investments and the Biden Administration’s executive order further support these initiatives.
