State Rep. Shusterman Announces $2.3 Million in Grants Boosting Local Projects

Grants

PAOLI, PA — State Representative Melissa Shusterman, representing Pennsylvania’s 157th Legislative District, has announced the allocation of nearly $2.3 million in grants to a range of local organizations, underscoring significant improvements across infrastructure, education, and cultural sectors.

A substantial portion of the funding, $775,000, has been directed to Willistown Township to modernize its aging sewer system. Constructed in the 1970s, the current system’s deterioration necessitated urgent upgrades to support the township’s expanding population and uphold public health standards.

Education facilities in the district also received notable support, with the Chester County Intermediate Unit being awarded $704,550 for the replacement and enhancement of HVAC systems at the Technical College High School campuses in Pennock and Pickering. These upgrades aim to enhance air quality, energy efficiency, and the overall learning environment for students. Additionally, the Intermediate Unit secured $254,800 through the PA Department of Education’s 21st Century Community Learning Center Grants, bolstering educational initiatives.

Easttown Township was awarded a $505,000 grant for its Complete Streets Initiative. This project focuses on transforming the Route 30 corridor in Berwyn into a more pedestrian-friendly and economically vibrant area, creating a community hub that promises to benefit local residents and businesses alike.

Additional grants include $24,000 to Chabad Lubavitch from the Nonprofit Security Grant Fund Program, $15,000 to the Great Valley School District through the PA Farm Bill Farm-to-School grant program for local food procurement, and cultural funding for the Wharton Esherick Museum and Historic Sugartown Inc., receiving $14,000 and $7,500 respectively, for enhancing educational and historical programming.

Since the beginning of October 2024, these strategic grant distributions have culminated in a total of $2,299,850 dedicated to advancing the district’s development. Expressing her satisfaction with these allocations, Rep. Shusterman stated, “I am proud to secure these funds to bring vast improvements to the 157th Legislative District. With these funds, neighbors and residents can be assured they are living in a happier, safer, and always-improving section of Chester County!”
