HARRISBURG, PA — Southern Chester County has been awarded more than $2 million in state grants to bolster infrastructure and public safety initiatives, marking a significant investment in the region’s future. The funding, announced by Rep. John Lawrence (R-West Grove) and Sen. Carolyn Comitta (D-West Chester), aims to address long-standing infrastructure needs while enhancing community facilities and safety measures.
Among the notable projects receiving support is the Penn Township Sports Park, which will benefit from a $500,000 grant. This final phase of development will introduce three new youth baseball and softball fields, complete with batting cages, LED lighting, and modern amenities. Additionally, the park will feature multi-purpose fields for soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey, alongside ADA-compliant walkways and facilities, providing a comprehensive recreational environment for residents.
The Oxford Area Recreation Authority has secured over $650,000 to enhance its community park in East Nottingham Township. Planned upgrades include improved parking, lighting, fencing, and the addition of new restroom facilities, all designed to elevate the visitor experience and accommodate growing community needs.
Avon Grove School District is set to receive $1 million to advance renovations at Penn London Elementary School and Avon Grove Intermediate School. The funding will facilitate the replacement of outdated HVAC systems, ensuring healthier and more efficient learning environments for students and teachers alike.
London Britain Township will see over $136,000 allocated to two essential projects. These include engineering work for a proposed municipal wastewater plant and the installation of flashing warning devices to enhance road safety for horse-drawn farm equipment. These initiatives are critical to safeguarding both the environment and the well-being of local residents.
The funding was sourced from two competitive state programs: the Local Share Account and the Public School Facility Improvement Grant program, administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority. This financial support is a testament to the collaborative efforts of local leaders, including Lawrence and Comitta, who have worked tirelessly to secure these investments.
“This funding represents a pivotal moment for southern Chester County,” remarked Lawrence, highlighting the community’s historical contribution to the state and the significance of receiving this support. Comitta echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the impact of accessible recreational and educational facilities on community well-being.
These projects, once completed, promise to deliver lasting benefits, reinforcing the region’s infrastructure and fostering a safer, more vibrant community for generations to come.
