WEST CHESTER, PA — In honor of American Heart Month, the YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW) is opening its doors to Chester County residents for free during its Gift of Heart Health Week from February 10 to 15. This special event aims to promote cardiovascular health and education, offering the community an opportunity to focus on heart disease prevention and wellness.
“Cardiovascular health is crucial for everyone,” stated Veronica Lopez, RN and Vice President of Health Strategies at YGBW. “Our goal is to provide access to the resources and education people need to improve their heart health and overall well-being.”
Community Access to Free Health Resources
Throughout the week, all eight YGBW branches will welcome community members to enjoy their facilities and programs, including state-of-the-art cardio equipment, group exercise classes, and wellness resources. Visitors will also have access to heart-health education and expert tools aimed at preventing heart disease, which remains the leading cause of death in the United States.
Residents can partake in unique offerings such as free Wellness assessments and EVOLT 360 body composition scans, which evaluate important health metrics. Additionally, resources like meditation classes, parent programs, and senior wellness initiatives support not only physical health but also mental well-being.
Membership That Makes a Heartful Difference
YGBW membership provides benefits that extend beyond physical fitness. Members can capitalize on tuition discounts with local universities, financial assistance programs, and specialized services like the LIVESTRONG program for cancer survivors and ForeverWell activities for older adults. Last year, YGBW awarded $2.6 million in financial assistance, ensuring residents could access vital programs such as childcare and water safety lessons.
“We’re here to offer the tools, support, and sense of community that people need for a healthy lifestyle,” emphasized Kim Cavallero, SVP of Member Experience and Acquisition.
Visit and Join the Movement
Interested residents over 18 are encouraged to visit any YGBW location during Gift of Heart Health Week by presenting a valid photo ID. Guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult with proper identification. For those considering starting or reigniting their fitness and wellness journeys, the event presents an ideal opportunity to experience all the YGBW has to offer.
Gift of Heart Health Week aims to spotlight the YMCA of Greater Brandywine’s goal of fostering a healthier, more connected community. By providing access to resources, education, and programs that benefit both body and mind, YGBW continues to inspire positive change for Chester County families.
With an emphasis on cultivating wellness, the organization is driving a future where health and community thrive in unison.
