WEST CHESTER, PA — Registration is now open for free, virtual workshops being held this Saturday at the 9th Annual Chester County Single Mothers’ Conference. Sponsored by Benchmark Federal Credit Union, the theme of this year’s conference is “Resilience & Reinvention.”
The conference kicked off Mother’s Day Weekend with an Online Happy Hour. It continues this Saturday, May 22, with a day of virtual presentations and guest speakers via Facebook Live and Zoom, including “Top 10 Savings Tips” with Benchmark Federal Credit Union as well as workshops on mental health and preparing for the next step in your career. The conference organizers are also planning an in-person, outdoor event for single mothers and their children during back-to-school season. Free registration for all events is now open at www.singlemotherscc.org.
“As we get closer to a return to normal, we want these events to inspire single mothers in our community,” says Conference Co-Chair Matrie Johnson. “We want moms to remain resilient and feel supported while they work to reach their goals. We understand many hard-working moms have had to reinvent aspects of themselves, or their lives, to overcome challenges faced during the pandemic. We want to recognize their experiences and help them connect to other single moms as well as the resources they need.”
Says Rebecca Worthington, Vice President of Marketing at Benchmark Federal Credit Union, “We want 2021 to be the year of moving forward. A wide range of workshops and resources will resonate with moms at all stages of life, covering everything from career goals to nurturing your mental health and achieving financial stability.”
The Chester County Community Collaborative organizes the Chester County Single Mothers’ Conference for the more than 9,000 single mothers who reside in Chester County. The event is free to all single mothers who register and is devoted to empowering single moms in their role as sole provider for the family. The conference has inspired hundreds of single mothers with workshops on careers, fitness, mental health, entrepreneurship, creativity and finance.
Again this year, the Belinda Harrison Award will go to a single mother nominated by her peers, who overcame adversity while working and remaining active in her community. Last year’s winner was Andrea Howell, a local single mother of two who balances a busy schedule working full time, while receiving her degree from West Chester University, in addition to volunteering with children experiencing homelessness and addiction.
