CHESTER COUNTY, PA — The YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW) is extending a heartfelt gesture this Veterans Day. Recognizing the sacrifices made by military personnel, YGBW is offering local veterans complimentary access to its wellness amenities on Friday, November 15.
Veterans Day, observed annually on November 11, is a national occasion to honor and express gratitude to those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. This year, YGBW is taking this opportunity to give back to the veteran community by hosting a day of activities and access at eight of its locations across Chester County. The day will commence with a welcoming breakfast from 8:00 to 10:00 AM, followed by free access to the YMCA facilities for veterans, requiring no membership. These facilities include state-of-the-art cardio equipment, indoor pools, strength training areas, and shower amenities. Veterans who are not current YGBW members will need to present a valid photo ID at the Welcome Desk to avail of these offerings.
Bertram L. Lawson II, the President & CEO of YGBW, expressed his personal connection and commitment to this cause, stating, “We are proud to open our doors to veterans in our community.” With a background rooted in military service—his father served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War—Lawson emphasizes the deep respect and honor he holds for those who prioritize country over self.
In addition to the free access on Veterans Day, YGBW provides an ongoing 10% discount on membership fees for veterans and members of the U.S. Armed Forces throughout its Chester County branches. Furthermore, they waive the $99 Join Fee upon proof of service. Active-duty service members under Title 10 are also eligible for a free membership, facilitated through a partnership with the Department of Defense and the Armed Services YMCA.
Initiatives like these by YGBW serve as powerful reminders of the community’s commitment to acknowledging and supporting veterans. By offering these services, YGBW not only promotes physical well-being among veterans but also reinforces a sense of community and appreciation for their service. The gesture underscores the broader impact such community-based initiatives can have, fostering an environment of inclusivity and respect.
As the nation pauses to honor its veterans, the YMCA of Greater Brandywine leads by example, providing a platform for gratitude and celebration. This initiative not only marks a day of recognition but also strengthens the bond between veterans and the communities they have served.
