WEST CHESTER, PA — In a heartfelt demonstration of gratitude and support, Chester County is once again participating in Operation Green Light, a nationwide initiative dedicated to honoring the contributions of veterans and their families. This year, the event will be held from November 4-11, and aims to raise awareness of the sacrifices made by veterans, as well as the benefits and services available to them.
The Chester County Commissioners, alongside the Department of Veterans Affairs, are leading the local effort by illuminating the Chester County Historic Courthouse in green. This symbolic act, accompanied by an official proclamation, underscores the community’s appreciation and respect for those who have served in the armed forces. Residents are encouraged to join the initiative by displaying green lights at their homes and businesses during the week-long event.
To facilitate widespread participation, the Chester County Department of Veterans Affairs is distributing green light bulbs to the public, supported by a grant from Walmart. These bulbs are available for free while supplies last and can be picked up at the Government Services Center in West Chester and other designated locations listed on the department’s website.
Commissioners Josh Maxwell, Marian Moskowitz, and Eric Roe expressed their collective support for the initiative, noting, “Participation in Operation Green Light offers an opportunity for everyone to show their appreciation for veterans and their families, and reminds them of the resources available year-round.”
Acting Director of the Chester County Department of Veterans Affairs, Susanne Fink, emphasized the importance of raising awareness about veterans’ entitlements. She noted, “The Chester County Department of Veterans Affairs is here to help our more than 24,500 veterans and their families navigate all the county, state, and federal resources, including application services, healthcare, and eligibility and enrollment assistance.”
Operation Green Light, established by the National Association of Counties and supported by the County Commissioners’ Association of Pennsylvania, seeks to illuminate the path to resources and recognition for veterans. As part of this initiative, the Chester County community is encouraged to share photos of their green light displays, symbolizing unity and support, by sending them to ccveterans@chesco.org.
The illumination of the historic courthouse and the widespread participation in Operation Green Light reflect Chester County’s commitment to acknowledging the dedication and sacrifices of service members. Through these efforts, the county aims to ensure that veterans feel valued and have access to the support they need throughout the year.
