WEST CHESTER, PA — Chester County veterans received a significant financial boost in May 2024, with compensation-only federal benefit payouts totaling $4,070,299. This amount is the highest among all Pennsylvania counties, according to the Chester County Department of Veterans’ Affairs. Berks County followed, but with nearly $1 million less, at $3,077,299.

Chester County Veterans’ Affairs Director Susan Price expressed pride in the county’s efforts. “Chester County values and serves veterans by helping them navigate and access services and benefits owed to them as members of the United States military. Not only is this good for veterans and their families, but it is also good for the county’s economy and local businesses,” she said. “We are proud that the veterans in our community are utilizing and benefiting from the assistance of the County’s Veterans’ Affairs Office.”

The Chester County Veterans’ Affairs office plays a crucial role in connecting veterans with a variety of services and benefits they may be eligible for. These include healthcare, education, assistance with substance abuse or mental health issues, and compensation for injuries or disabilities incurred during their service. The department collaborates with local VA organizations, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) posts, American Legions, and the Coatesville VA Medical Center.

Throughout the year, staff from Veterans’ Affairs and the Chester County’s Veterans Advisory Council host outreach events to raise awareness among veterans about the benefits they are eligible to receive. These efforts aim to ensure that veterans are informed and able to access the support they need.
