State Senators Secure Funding to Support Grieving Families Through A Haven

Grants

WEST CHESTER, PA — State Senators Carolyn Comitta and Katie Muth have successfully secured $50,000 in grant funding to support A Haven, a Chester County nonprofit dedicated to helping grieving children and their families. This funding aims to enhance the organization’s ability to assist more families, expand its services, and strengthen community education and outreach efforts.

A Haven, based in Exton, offers free counseling sessions, grief education programs, and school partnerships to help children and families process the loss of a loved one. The grant will facilitate program expansion, updates to the counseling space, and initiatives for educating the community on grief support.

“The loss of a family member or loved one can have a significant impact on one’s life, especially during their formative years,” Senator Comitta stated. “In Chester County, we are fortunate to have A Haven offering free professional services to help guide children, parents, and families through the grieving process in a way that is safe, healthy, and mindful.” Comitta also noted the importance of this effort in her role on the Senate Aging and Youth Committee.

Senator Muth echoed these sentiments, sharing her personal connection to A Haven’s mission. “As someone who lost their mother at a very young age, I know the importance of a strong support system and how having someone to talk to can help you get through the darkest of days,” Muth said. “This organization is such an important and caring asset for Chester County families, and I am grateful that Senator Comitta and I were able to successfully advocate for grant funding to expand their reach and assistance to more children and families.”

The nonprofit’s Development Director, Betty Silfa, expressed deep gratitude for the senators’ efforts. “On behalf of A Haven, I want to sincerely thank both senators for their support in helping us secure the $50,000 grant. Their advocacy and commitment to our mission have made a meaningful impact,” Silfa said. She emphasized that the funding would allow the organization to grow, support more school group programs, and assist even more grieving children and their families.

Last year, A Haven provided services to numerous families, educated over 100 community members on grief support, and coordinated school-based grief groups across six districts. With this new funding, A Haven aims to further strengthen its role as a vital resource for families navigating loss.
