WEST CHESTER, PA — In a significant boost for The Arc of Chester County, state Senator Carolyn Comitta has secured a $50,000 state grant to enhance security at the organization’s West Chester facility. The funding, provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, aims to ensure a safer environment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Comitta emphasized the importance of these services. “The services provided by The Arc of Chester County help ensure our neighbors with intellectual and developmental disabilities can lead their lives to their fullest potential,” she said. “With this new funding, The Arc can continue to provide their services in a safe and welcoming space for individuals in the ID/A community and their families.”
The grant will finance several critical security improvements, including new lighting, cameras, door entry systems, fencing, and gating. These upgrades are designed to protect both the facility and its occupants.
Jeanne Meikrantz, CEO of The Arc, expressed her gratitude. “The Arc of Chester County is incredibly grateful for the support of Senator Carolyn Comitta and her dedicated team,” Meikrantz said. She credited Comitta’s commitment to equity and inclusion for the funding. “On behalf of those we are so privileged to serve, we applaud Senator Comitta and thank her for continuing to be a true champion and strong advocate for the disability community in our region.”
Senator Comitta’s advocacy extends beyond this grant. During this year’s budget negotiations, she joined forces with community members, caregivers, and advocates to push for increased investments in intellectual disability services. Their efforts resulted in a 7% rate increase for home and community-based service providers.
The Arc of Chester County supports over 3,000 individuals and families each year. The organization offers a range of programs and services that advocate for the rights and freedoms of people with differing abilities.
