POTTSTOWN, PA — Family Services’ Meals on Wheels Program is hosting a Pet Food Drive through December 19 to help local homebound seniors care for their pets. All donated pet food will go directly to Meals on Wheels recipients who face challenges providing for their furry companions.

“Pets are a vital source of comfort and connection for many older adults,” said Phoebe Kancianic, Program Director of Meals on Wheels. “For some of our seniors, their pet is their closest companion and a key contributor to their well-being.”

The initiative is part of Family Services’ new Pet Program, which provides pet food and supplies to 25 Meals on Wheels recipients and their 33 pets each month—all at no cost. The program aims to ease the physical and financial burden of pet care for seniors living alone, allowing them to maintain the bond with their animals.

Between December 9 and December 19, local residents can contribute by donating canned or dry cat and dog food. Donations can be dropped off at the following locations:

  • Family Services’ Pottstown Office – 1976 East High Street, Pottstown
  • PetSmart – 1112 Town Square Road, Pottstown
  • Petco – 1844 East Ridge Pike, Royersford
  • Family Services’ Eagleville Office – 3125 Ridge Pike, Eagleville

Meals on Wheels has also created an Amazon Wish List featuring high-demand pet food items. Supporters can purchase items through the list, and they’ll be shipped directly to the Pottstown Office.

This campaign highlights Meals on Wheels’ ongoing commitment to supporting not only seniors but also the pets that bring joy and companionship into their lives. For more information about the drive or to make a donation, visit Family Services’ Meals on Wheels website.
