DOWNINGTOWN, PA — State Senator Carolyn Comitta and Representative Danielle Friel Otten will host a sign-up event for the SEPTA Senior Key Card on Thursday, May 15, from 10 a.m. to noon at Downingtown Borough Hall, located at 4 West Lancaster Avenue.
This event offers seniors aged 65 and older the opportunity to apply for or renew their free SEPTA Senior Key Cards, which provide complimentary access to SEPTA buses, trolleys, subways, and regional rail lines within Pennsylvania, as well as half-fare rides on select routes to and from New Jersey and Delaware. The cards are part of SEPTA’s Senior Free Ride Program, funded by the Pennsylvania Lottery.
“Whether going to a doctor’s appointment, visiting loved ones, or taking a day trip, the SEPTA Senior Key Card helps our residents get where they need to go,” said Senator Comitta. “I hope to see you at our sign-up event so you can take advantage of this great program available to seniors in our community.”
Representative Otten emphasized the program’s importance, saying, “SEPTA Senior Key Cards are a lifeline for many seniors and are without a doubt one of the most popular services our district office provides. Seniors rely on public transit for transportation to jobs, medical appointments, and cultural and sporting events in the city and along the Main Line.”
Seniors must bring an age-verifying form of identification, such as a driver’s license, photo ID, birth certificate, passport, or Social Security statement of age, to apply.
Both legislators support increased funding for SEPTA operations under the Governor’s proposed budget, stressing the importance of public transit for the region’s economy and residents.
This sign-up event provides an opportunity to ensure seniors can continue to access reliable transportation while supporting their independence and mobility. Comitta and Otten encourage all seniors to take advantage of the event and reap the benefits of this invaluable program.
