Wilmington Man Busted in Massive $120K Copper Heist Spree

NORTH WILMINGTON, DEDelaware State Police have charged a Wilmington man in connection with a series of copper thefts from local businesses that occurred between November and December 2024.

Investigators allege that 46-year-old Matthew Foth targeted businesses in the Silverside Road and Marsh Road area, vandalizing commercial air conditioning units and removing copper components. Authorities estimate the damage and stolen materials to exceed $120,000.

Detectives identified Foth as a suspect following a detailed investigation into multiple incidents at locations such as Artisans’ Bank, Einstein Bros. Bagels, Capriotti’s, and other establishments. Police also allege that Foth involved an unidentified female accomplice during one of the thefts.

On January 14, 2025, officers executed a search warrant at Foth’s residence, where he was arrested without incident. He was later charged with ten counts of felony theft, ten counts of felony criminal mischief, and additional charges, including conspiracy and criminal trespass. Foth was released on a $48,201 unsecured bond following his arraignment.
