NEW CASTLE, DE — A 21-year-old man from Wilmington is facing multiple felony charges following his arrest during a traffic stop on Tuesday night in New Castle.

According to the Delaware State Police, members of the New Castle County Governor’s Task Force stopped a white Volkswagen Jetta on January 28, 2025, around 10:20 p.m. The vehicle, which displayed a fictitious temporary tag, was traveling southbound on New Castle Avenue.

The driver, identified as Stephan White, reportedly provided detectives with false registration paperwork and was unable to produce identification. After being taken into custody, authorities discovered that White’s driver’s license was suspended and that the Jetta was unregistered and uninsured.

An inventory search of the vehicle prior to towing led detectives to uncover a loaded handgun under the driver’s seat. Police allege the firearm had been reported stolen in Newark in March 2023. Further investigation revealed that White is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.

White was transported to Troop 2 and later arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11. He faces several charges, including possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed firearm, receiving a stolen firearm, and multiple traffic violations. He is being held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $23,500 cash bond.

Authorities emphasize that criminal charges are not proof of guilt, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
