WILMINGTON, DE — Delaware State Police have charged two men following a traffic stop in Wilmington that allegedly uncovered drugs, a firearm, and distribution materials.
The incident occurred on January 13, 2025, at about 7 p.m., when members of the New Castle County Governor’s Task Force stopped a Jeep Grand Cherokee for equipment violations on South Market Street. The driver, identified as 27-year-old John Hernandez of New Castle, was found to have an invalid license. The passenger, initially providing false identification, was later confirmed as 32-year-old Shakair Miller of Wilmington, who had an active capias for his arrest.
During the stop, detectives allegedly discovered a loaded Ruger handgun, approximately 42.4 grams of crack cocaine, 41 baggies containing 1.23 grams of heroin, and various packaging and distribution materials.
Both men were taken into custody and charged with multiple felony offenses. Hernandez’s charges include possession of a firearm, intent to distribute controlled substances, and related traffic violations. He is being held on a $142,320 cash bond. Miller, a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms, faces similar charges, including providing a false statement. He is being held on a $143,100 cash bond.
Authorities emphasize that all allegations are under investigation, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
