NEW CASTLE, DE — The New Castle County Police Department is investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Tuesday afternoon, leaving one man injured.

At approximately 3:50 p.m. on December 17, 2024, officers responded to Old Forge Road near Evlon Court after receiving reports of gunfire. According to initial findings, a 21-year-old man and an 18-year-old man were traveling in a vehicle when an individual allegedly opened fire on them. The assault caused the vehicle to crash into a roadside fence, prompting both occupants to exit the car.

The 21-year-old, who had sustained a gunshot wound to his upper body, flagged down a nearby school bus and was transported to a local church. Police arrived at the church and rendered first aid before paramedics transported the man to the hospital. He is currently listed in stable condition. The younger passenger, though unharmed, had clothing damaged by bullets and was later evaluated at a hospital as a precaution.

Authorities confirmed that the school bus involved was not struck by gunfire, and no injuries were reported among the students or the driver. Parents of all passengers were notified promptly.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Unit and the Evidence Detection Unit are actively investigating the incident. Authorities urge anyone with information, video footage, or eyewitness accounts to contact Detective Gino Cevallos by email at Gino.Cevallos@newcastlede.gov or by phone at (302) 395-8129.
