NEWARK, DE — Authorities have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the alleged theft of a Ford Bronco Raptor, following a multi-agency response and a brief pursuit through Wilmington in the early hours of January 5, 2025.

Police say the incident began around 3:30 a.m. when officers from the New Castle County Division of Police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle from the Woodland Village neighborhood. The stolen Ford Bronco Raptor was later located by the Newport Police Department at a gas station on Maryland Avenue.

According to officials, when an attempt was made to stop the car, the driver fled into Wilmington. The vehicle was eventually abandoned near Carpenter Street, and the suspect, identified as Zhiayr Taylor, was apprehended nearby on West 5th Street.

Taylor now faces multiple charges, including felony theft of a motor vehicle, first-degree burglary, and second-degree conspiracy. Additional charges were filed for misdemeanor theft, leaving the scene of a property collision, and driving without a valid license. Traffic-related charges from the Newport Police Department’s pursuit were also included.

Taylor was arraigned and taken to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $14,407 in cash bail. Authorities emphasize that the charges are allegations, and Taylor is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
