WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police have charged a 22-year-old man in connection with a fatal motor vehicle collision that claimed the life of a teenage pedestrian earlier this week.
The driver, identified as Elijah Davis, was apprehended in Bear without incident. He now faces multiple charges, including manslaughter, leaving the scene of a collision resulting in death, failure to stop at a red light, driving at an unreasonable speed, and driving in a no-passing zone. Davis was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and is being held at Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $55,000 cash-only bail.
The incident occurred on Monday, April 7, at approximately 5:07 a.m., near Maryland Avenue and Lower Oak Street. Authorities report that Davis allegedly struck a juvenile pedestrian before leaving the scene. The victim, identified as 15-year-old Sa’riyah Patterson, was transported to the hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to her injuries.
The vehicle involved in the collision was recovered in Bear, and Davis was located shortly thereafter. Police allege that he fled the scene following the accident.
Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding this incident. Davis is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
