Teen Caught After Chase in Wilmington—Stolen Gun Seized by Police

WILMINGTON, DE — A 14-year-old male juvenile has been apprehended on multiple gun-related charges following an incident on Sunday, February 25.

At approximately 3:17 p.m., officers from the Wilmington Police Department’s Safe Streets Task Force observed a young male behaving suspiciously in the 300 block of East 23rd Street. When police attempted to approach him, the juvenile fled on foot. After a brief pursuit, he was taken into custody without further incident.

Upon investigation, officers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun in the juvenile’s possession. The firearm was later confirmed to have been reported stolen.

The 14-year-old faces several charges, including Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, Receiving a Stolen Firearm, and Resisting Arrest.

The suspect was arraigned in New Castle County Family Court and subsequently remanded to the New Castle County Detention Center on $25,000 cash-only bail.

Authorities emphasize that all charges remain allegations, and the individual is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
