CLAYMONT, DE — Delaware State Police have detained a 15-year-old girl from Claymont following allegations of her involvement in a robbery earlier this month at a local grocery store parking lot.
The incident occurred on the evening of October 3, 2024, when troopers were called to the Food Lion located at 3609 Philadelphia Pike. According to the investigation, three unidentified individuals approached a 78-year-old woman as she was returning to her vehicle. During the encounter, one of the suspects reportedly attempted to seize the woman’s purse, leading to a brief struggle that caused the contents to scatter onto the ground. Subsequently, a suspect allegedly picked up the victim’s car key fob before all three fled the scene on foot.
Investigative efforts led detectives to identify a 12-year-old boy, a 14-year-old boy, and the 15-year-old girl as the suspects in this case. Arrest warrants were secured, and the two male suspects were apprehended without incident the previous week.
On October 29, 2024, authorities located and arrested the 15-year-old girl without incident. She was transported to Troop 2, where she was formally charged with multiple offenses. The charges include Robbery 1st Degree for allegedly committing a crime against a person 65 years or older, and Conspiracy 2nd Degree, both of which are felonies.
Following her arraignment by the New Castle County Family Court, the teen was committed to the VisionQuest Detention Center on a secured bond amounting to $20,000.
As proceedings continue, it is crucial to acknowledge that these are allegations, and the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
