WILMINGTON, DE — A Wilmington man has been charged in connection with an attempted robbery that took place at a Dollar General late last year, Delaware State Police have announced.

The incident occurred on December 24, 2024, at approximately 9:22 p.m. at the Dollar General located at 1402 East Newport Pike. According to investigators, a male suspect, later identified as 48-year-old Vincent Vari, entered the store armed with a taser. The suspect reportedly activated the taser and approached an employee, demanding money from the register.

Officials said the suspect attempted to tase the employee, but the worker defended themselves by pushing the suspect away and retrieving a baseball bat. The suspect then fled on foot toward East Highland Avenue. The employee was unharmed during the incident.

After a thorough investigation, detectives identified Vari as the suspect and secured a warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody without incident on March 7, 2025.

Vari now faces two felony charges, including Robbery 1st Degree and Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony. Following his arraignment at Justice of the Peace Court 2, he was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $24,000 cash bond.

The charges against Vari are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
