WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police have arrested 34-year-old Kevin Britt on multiple gun-related charges following a vehicle stop and subsequent pursuit in the city.
On February 23, at approximately 11:30 a.m., officers from the Uniformed Services Division conducted a traffic stop near West 11th and North Washington Streets. Upon making contact, authorities found that Britt was wanted on an unrelated matter. During the interaction, Britt fled the scene in his vehicle, prompting officers to locate it shortly after near West 14th and North Washington Streets. He then attempted to evade capture on foot but was apprehended after a brief pursuit.
During the arrest, police recovered a loaded .40 caliber handgun reportedly stolen in a prior incident.
Britt now faces several charges, including Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Receiving a Stolen Firearm, as well as traffic violations and other offenses. Among them are three counts of First-Degree Reckless Endangering, Resisting Arrest, and Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal.
Following his arraignment in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas, Britt was remanded to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution with bail set at $84,000 cash-only.
Officials have emphasized that all allegations are accusations, and Britt is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
