NEWARK, DE — A 23-year-old Wilmington man, Savion Whyte-Douglas, and a 23-year-old Newark man, Dontaye Lewis, were arrested on January 10, 2025, after police apprehended them in connection with various allegations involving firearms and drugs.
According to law enforcement, officers from the Newark Police Department and the New Castle County Police Mobile Enforcement Team were attempting to apprehend Whyte-Douglas, who was wanted on multiple warrants, when they observed him as a passenger in a vehicle. During a traffic stop, Whyte-Douglas reportedly fled the vehicle on foot but was apprehended after a brief chase. Authorities recovered a loaded 9mm handgun, which they allege had been stolen from New Castle City, as well as cocaine in his possession.
Lewis, who remained in the vehicle, was found to be in possession of heroin and psilocybin mushrooms, police said.
Whyte-Douglas faces several charges, including possession of a large-capacity magazine during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, receiving a stolen firearm, resisting arrest, and drug-related offenses. He was also wanted on additional warrants and violations of probation. He was arraigned and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $94,750 cash bail.
Lewis was charged with possession of heroin and psilocybin mushrooms. He was released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance.
Authorities remind the public that all charges are allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Additional updates may be provided as more information becomes available.
