Stolen Car Pursuit Ends with Teen Suspects Arrested in Wilmington

Arrest

WILMINGTON, DE — Two teenagers were apprehended after a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle that stretched through multiple areas of Wilmington on the afternoon of Wednesday, February 12, 2025.

The New Castle County Division of Police Auto Theft Detectives identified a stolen Lincoln Zephyr on Maryland Avenue. It had been reported stolen earlier that day from Holloway Terrace in New Castle. Detectives initially followed the vehicle but briefly lost contact near Alban Park before rediscovering it near Newport.

When authorities attempted a traffic stop, the driver reportedly refused to pull over, leading to a chase along Maryland Avenue and into Wilmington’s city limits. The vehicle was abandoned by its occupants on Anchorage Street near Seventh Avenue, where the suspects fled on foot.

With assistance from multiple agencies, including the Delaware State Police, Wilmington Police Department, and local law enforcement from Elsmere and Newport, officers quickly apprehended two suspects — a 17-year-old male and a 14-year-old male, both from Wilmington.

Both teens were charged with a felony count of receiving stolen property, a felony count of second-degree conspiracy, and a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest. They were arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11. The 17-year-old was released on a $2,500 secured bail, while the 14-year-old was released on a $2,500 unsecured bail.

The New Castle County Police are encouraging anyone with information or surveillance footage of this incident to contact Detective Caroline Silverman at the non-emergency number 302-573-2800 or via email at Caroline.Silverman@newcastlede.gov.

Authorities remind the public that all allegations are under investigation, and the suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
