HARRISBURG, PA — A Pennsylvania State Police Corporal is facing charges related to the alleged misuse of his work computer, including the storage of thousands of pornographic images, some reportedly created using artificial intelligence.

Attorney General Michelle Henry announced criminal charges this week against Stephen M. Kamnik, 38, of Havertown. Authorities allege that Kamnik, who was stationed at Troop K in Schwenksville, used his work station to store a hard drive containing thousands of pornographic files. Investigators also reported discovering evidence that some of the materials were generated with “deepfake” software, which creates artificial images or videos using a person’s likeness.

Kamnik has been charged with felony unauthorized use of a computer and misdemeanor misapplication of entrusted property. He surrendered to authorities on Wednesday and was released on $1,000 unsecured bail.

Officials noted that Kamnik, who has been with the Pennsylvania State Police since 2011, has been suspended without pay pending the investigation. Senior Deputy Attorney General James Price will prosecute the case.

Investigations are ongoing, and authorities emphasize that all charges are allegations. Stephen M. Kamnik is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
