BEAR, DE — A 22-year-old Bear resident, Dwayne Arnold, was arrested on Friday, January 17, 2025, following an encounter with law enforcement during a traffic stop in the School Bell Road and Nursery Drive area.
Authorities with the New Castle County Division of Police conducted the stop after observing a Nissan Sentra allegedly traveling above the posted speed limit. During the stop, investigators discovered that Arnold, a passenger in the vehicle, had several outstanding warrants.
When officers attempted to arrest Arnold, he allegedly resisted, resulting in a physical altercation. Officers deployed a taser to subdue him before taking him into custody. A subsequent search reportedly revealed Arnold was in possession of a loaded Taurus G2C 9mm handgun and 41 grams of marijuana.
Arnold was transported to a hospital to receive medical treatment for injuries sustained during the incident. Police confirmed that the officers involved sustained minor injuries but did not require medical attention.
Arnold now faces multiple felony charges, including assaulting law enforcement officers, resisting arrest with violence, carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, and drug-related allegations. He was later arraigned and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $70,000 cash bail.
Officials remind the public that these charges are allegations and Arnold is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Further details may be released as the situation develops.
