Shots Fired in Shocking I-95 Road Rage Incident—Police Urge Public’s Help

NEWARK, DE — The Delaware State Police are conducting an investigation into a road rage incident that escalated into gunfire on Interstate 95 in Newark.

The incident occurred on Monday, February 17, 2025, at approximately 11:38 a.m., along the southbound lanes of I-95 in the area of State Route 896. Authorities report that a confrontation between the driver of a white Ford van and an unidentified SUV led to the suspect discharging a firearm at the van. Although the bullet struck the vehicle, the driver, a 55-year-old man from Maryland, escaped unharmed.

According to police, the suspect fled the scene in the SUV without stopping. The vehicle, described as a dark gray or black mid-size SUV with heavily tinted windows, was last seen heading towards State Route 896. The suspect is described as a black male with a short beard, wearing dark-colored clothing.

Troop 2 Criminal Investigations Detectives are heading the inquiry. They are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about the suspect or vehicle to contact Detective J.
