NEWARK, DE — Delaware State Police took two women into custody on December 16, 2024, following allegations of multiple shoplifting incidents at Christiana Mall. The suspects, identified as 30-year-old Rashunda Smullen and 28-year-old Jerlysa Williams, both from Wilmington, Delaware, face a series of charges related to the alleged thefts.
Authorities were initially alerted to the activity around 12:10 p.m. after receiving a report from LensCrafters about stolen merchandise. Officers learned that two women had allegedly placed several pairs of glasses, valued at over $5,000, into their purses and exited the store without paying. Troopers located the suspects in a nearby store within the mall and arrested them without incident.
A subsequent search reportedly uncovered additional stolen items from other stores, including the Apple Store, Nordstrom, and Cotton On Kids. Investigators allege that Smullen and Williams were responsible for these incidents and say Williams carried out separate thefts at additional retail locations in the mall.
Both women were charged with multiple offenses. Smullen faces one count of felony shoplifting, a conspiracy charge, and misdemeanor shoplifting, while Williams has been charged with conspiracy and four counts of shoplifting under $1,500. Both were arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on their own recognizance.
Police emphasize that all charges remain allegations, and both individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
