PHILADELPHIA, PA — Joseph Gallo, 80, of Philadelphia, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his possession of thousands of images and videos of child pornography. The sentence was handed down on January 23, 2025, by United States District Court Judge Juan R. Sanchez. Gallo’s punishment also includes five years of supervised release, $12,750 in restitution to victims, and $10,000 in additional special assessments.

The defendant, who admitted to possessing over 18,000 illegal images and videos of child sexual abuse, pleaded guilty in July of last year. Court records revealed that Gallo amassed his collection over three years, despite being a registered sex offender under Megan’s Law during that time. He was attending court-ordered treatment and serving probation following a 2015 conviction in Bucks County for similar crimes.

“Gallo learned nothing from his first conviction and again started seeking out those abhorrent images,” United States Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero stated. “Consumers of child pornography like him perpetuate the exploitation and trauma of innocent victims, which my office, HSI, and our partners simply won’t abide. We’ll continue to hold accountable collectors of child sexual abuse material, because protecting kids everywhere is paramount.”

Gallo’s case was the result of an investigation conducted by Homeland Security Investigations and the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Michelle Rotella led the prosecution. Officials emphasized that this case exemplifies their ongoing commitment to protecting children and prosecuting individuals who engage in these heinous acts.
