NEWARK, DE — A missing person investigation in Newark has taken a grim turn after human remains were discovered in Maryland, prompting the arrest of a man linked to the case.

On Friday, December 20, 2024, officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were called to the Village of Kent Apartments after 31-year-old Tracy Nyariki failed to report to work for several days. Concerned about her safety, her employer contacted authorities. Upon arrival at her home, police were unable to locate her but uncovered suspicious circumstances that heightened concerns for her well-being.

With Tracy Nyariki still unaccounted for, detectives issued a Gold Alert to raise public awareness. Investigative efforts soon identified 32-year-old Nobert Matara as a person of interest in the case. On Saturday, December 21, 2024, detectives sought assistance from the Aberdeen Police Department in Maryland to locate both Matara and Nyariki.

Authorities discovered Matara and his vehicle on South Philadelphia Boulevard in Aberdeen, Maryland. During their investigation, dismembered human remains were reportedly found in Matara’s vehicle, leading to his immediate arrest.

Matara is currently being held in Maryland as he awaits extradition to Delaware. Once transferred, he is expected to be arraigned on a felony charge of first-degree murder. Police have stated that additional charges may follow as the investigation continues.

The New Castle County Police urge anyone with information or video footage relevant to this case to contact Detective Holubinka at (302) 395-8254. Anonymous tips can also be provided through Delaware Crime Stoppers by calling (800) TIP-3333.

Authorities stress that all allegations remain under investigation. Any suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
