HARRISBURG, PA — Matthew Chapman, 43, of Sayre, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 15 months to seven years in prison following his conviction for the repeated sexual abuse of a child. The sentencing includes a lifetime requirement to register as a sex offender.

Chapman was found guilty of indecent assault and corruption of minors by a Bradford County jury. Prosecutors revealed during the trial that Chapman assaulted the child multiple times while she was sleeping, taking advantage of his trusted relationship with her family to gain access.

Attorney General Dave Sunday commended the efforts of those involved in securing justice. “Our efforts to hold abusers of children accountable for their vile actions will never cease,” Sunday stated. “I commend the investigators and prosecutors — and of course, the brave survivor — who helped secure this conviction and the jury for their dedication to their task throughout this disturbing case.”

The case was prosecuted by Senior Deputy Attorney General Rebecca Elo.
