NEW CASTLE, DE — Delaware State Police have charged a New Castle man with felony offenses after an early morning incident in Newark involving allegations of impaired driving and a police pursuit.
The arrest occurred on January 4, 2025, at approximately 1:10 a.m. during a patrol near Harmony Plaza on Ogletown Stanton Road. A trooper observed a 2014 Dodge Durango with a shattered windshield entering the rear of the shopping center and later found the vehicle parked behind a dumpster. The driver, identified as 32-year-old Arturo Guerrero, allegedly ignored verbal commands from authorities and fled the scene.
Police state that the pursuit ended on Llangollen Boulevard, where Guerrero was taken into custody without further incident. During the interaction, officers reportedly noted signs of impairment, including the smell of alcohol on Guerrero’s breath.
Records indicate Guerrero has four prior convictions related to driving under the influence, elevating the current DUI charge to a felony. He was taken to Troop 2 for processing and formally charged with several offenses, including 5th Offense Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol (Felony), Disregarding a Police Officer Signal (Felony), and aggressive driving, along with additional traffic violations.
Following arraignment at Justice of the Peace Court 11, Guerrero was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution with a cash bond set at $12,800.
Authorities underscore that all charges remain accusations, and Guerrero is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
