WILMINGTON, DE — Authorities are investigating a tragic hit-and-run incident that left a 15-year-old girl dead in Wilmington on the morning of April 7, 2025.
The collision occurred around 5:07 a.m. at the intersection of Maryland Avenue and Lower Oak Street. Wilmington police responded to the scene, where they discovered a female juvenile who had been struck by a vehicle. Officials say the victim, later identified as Sa’riyah Patterson, was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition but sadly succumbed to her injuries.
The driver involved in the collision reportedly fled the scene immediately after the incident. Authorities later recovered the vehicle in Bear, DE, and the driver has since been located.
The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation by the Wilmington Police Department‘s Special Operations Division/Traffic Unit. While no additional details have been made public at this time, investigators are urging anyone with information, video footage, or knowledge of the collision to come forward.
